The Mourvèdre vineyard sits on a unique site that is over 100 years old and only produces around one ton annually (50 cases). In fact, I’ve been told this is the oldest Mourvèdre vineyard in the Russian River Valley. When I first was offered the opportunity to farm this varietal, I had no idea what to expect and but was anxious to see its potential. And let me tell you…it did not disappoint. I have been producing it with 20% whole cluster, starting with native yeast, and finishing with cultured yeast. I barrel age in four-year-old neutral oak. This wine is dynamic with many layers. It starts out earthy with some plum notes and then opens up with hints of citrus, violets, and spice.
